Brousseau and Dov
Patriotic designs often resonated with the sense of national identity that defined the late 19th and early 20th century, especially as the United States was growing as an industrial and political power. For many owners, their shaving mugs were more than mere tools, they were emblems of loyalty and pride. Union workers, Civil War veterans, and members of patriotic fraternal orders like the Sons of the American Revolution often chose these designs as a reflection of their affiliations and values.
We felt that no inaugural collection would be complete without a design celebrating this iconic imagery. Laurent’s thoughtful interpretation captures the spirit of that tradition, and we hope it resonates with you, too.
The artwork is applied using traditional screen-printed ceramic transfers, a method developed nearly a century ago and still favored for its clarity and durability, well suited to a shaving bowl grounded in tradition. Each color is printed with ceramic pigment onto a transfer medium, then carefully applied by hand and kiln-fired. The result is a fused design with crisp detail, rich color, and lasting beauty.
