Description

Have a straight razor that needs polishing or new scales?

WHAT WE DO

Our Straight Razor Restoration Service is the perfect solution for daily shavers and heirloom razors alike. Whether you want a shave-ready straight razor or museum quality keepsake, we are committed to preserving history and helping you get the most from your wet shave experience.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Each razor is assessed for its specific needs. To safely remove afflicted metal during polishing, our team uses specialized compounds and rouges. Our experienced staff, safely maintain the integrity of your steel while buffing and polishing your razor and scales to look their best. This process removes pitting, rust, patina and damage, leaving the metal clean and hygienic.
  • We work to restore and preserve the original handles (scales) and will polish them to look their best. However, scales that have been contributing to rusting the blade are now removed and replaced with handcrafted custom scales designed by you if need be. Our website makes ordering custom scales easy by standardizing shapes, materials, and cost. Just select your options above and get a preview of what your straight razor will look like.
  • For that close shave, razors now move on to the sharpening process wherein our in-house Hone-Meister Eric takes them through an individualized stone progression. With an easel of over 12 stones to choose from; natural to synthetic, coticule to Chosera, exotic Japanese stones like Naniwa to tried and true performers like Norton, we have everything needed to give you the keenest edge you’ve ever experienced.

WHY IT MATTERS

Our Straight Razor Restoration Service was created with two purposes in mind: the everyday shaver that wants clean steel, beautiful custom scales, and the sharpest shaving edge; as well as the family heirloom straight razor, ready to be passed down to future generations, perfectly preserved in museum quality condition.

POLISHING BREAKDOWN

We offer two different polishing options so your razor can return home exactly how you intend!

Polish: light metal removal using polishing wheels only. Removes active rust, minor imperfections in blade like honing scratches, restores shine.

Re-Grind and Polish: Each razor must be individually evaluated. Regrind and Polish removes a good amount of metal through grinding wheels. Good for razors in really bad shape. Removes as many imperfections as possible without changing the razors over all shape. Note, any etchings on the blade face will not survive a regrind.

  4. We'll let you know when we receive your razor and keep you updated during the process.
  5. Our turn-around time is 7-10 days once we receive your razor.

    Rolls Razor Blade

This was a razor that my father bought in 1948 in Germany because blades were hard to find. So, it looks great again. Anxious to use it.

    Granddad's Straight Razor

I sent my grandfather's straight razor in for a complete revamp. The scales were cracked, and even though the blade was in good shape to be nearly 100 years old, it needed to be polished and honed. I requested Classic scales on my order, but when the razor was returned to me it had Sleek scales installed. I originally requested G10 material thinking it would most closely match the 1930's flat black scales, but it did not. I returned the razor, and Emily was very helpful, authorizing a return and changing the scale material to cocobolo wood. When the razor came back to me for the second time, it was much better, but one end was rounded off at an angle rather than having both sides of the pivot end square to each other. As I am a woodworker and not wanting to return the razor for yet more work, I squared the end, gently rounded the sharp edges of the scales and polished the wood to my liking. I'm happy with the way it looks now, but would have been happier if it had come back to me without needing my woodworking experience to finish it. Note on G10 scale material: I have never seen raw G10 scale material before, but I wonder if it would have been more appealing if it had been shaped and polished. I'm thinking that it may have just been the factory surface/finish that was unpleasing. Short summary: Not completely happy with the work, but thanks to Emily for trying to make it right.

    Disappointed

I expected so much more from a company with your reputation. The lack of effort and craftsmanship you put into this razors scales is completely disappointing. Please try harder and take some pride in your product. I just wasted my money on the ugliest set of scales that were unfinished and a wedge that is completely too thick. Why even offer the service if you aren’t even going to try?
