Wet Shave Review Above The Tie Windsor 5 Piece Set

Wet Shave Review Above The Tie Windsor 5 Piece Set

21st Dec 2018

We're happy to review the  Windsor SS Satin 5 Piece Set from Above The Tie. This razor is hand crafted from solid 303 stainless steel here in the USA, and bead blasted for a smooth satin finish. ATT also offers a few premium finishes, however we chose the standard to get a good idea of how this model shaves!

Windsor Cap: The Windsor cap is wider on all sides than the traditional standard cap. This covers the blade tabs on the end, for a more refined look and protection against nicks. The cap reduces vibration in the blade, making it the smoothest, most luxurious feeling shaver yet. The SS base plates are longer than the standard plates, and covers the blade tabs on the end.

Calypso: The Calypso style handle, with the classic "Barber Pole" look, is 3½" long and weighs 74 grams.

SSH1: The SSH1 Base Plate is the most aggressive of the solid bar line with a .91 mm blade gap.

SSR1: The SSR1 Base Plate is the mid aggressive and most versatile of the solid bar line with a .58 mm blade gap.

SSM1: The SSM1 Base Plate is the mildest and most gentle of the solid bar line with a .25 mm blade gap.

When assembled, the Windsor SSR1 razor weighs in at 116 grams, total length is 3¾".

These base plates will provide the blade gap you need no matter what kind of beard you have. These tools are wonderfully machined with very tight tolerances. The blade seats precisely in the head with symmetrical blade exposure. This razor is easy to master because the shave angle is very intuitive.
